Networking

Are you a Natural Networker?

To most people networking is an everyday occurrence. Something we all do - in the stores - in a lineup at the bank - at the hairdresser. It's the natural thing to do. As human beings we are supposed to be able to communicate with our fellow-humans but is it that easy for all of us?
To many of us, the thought of meeting someone brings on sweaty palms, heart palpitations or just plain old fear. Being the centre of attention at all, paralyzes some people , so the prospect of having to walk into a crowded room and make conversation is a daunting experience.
They say that women are much more able to make connections and open up topics than men but is this really the case or are we all really just putting on an act, and hoping we've convinced ourselves and the others in the room that we are natural networkers.
Becoming a professional networker, takes time, training, confidence and preparation. You have to know why you are there, who you are meeting and what you want to achieve. Know when to speak and when to listen, when to arrive and when to leave and above all know your product.
Networking isn't a battle ground so following a few simple rules and raising your confidence level may help you walk through that door but if that still stops you in your tracks, then try online-marketing. No hands to shake, no eyes to meet, not even a dress code. Today's online-marketers work in the comfort of their own home, work their own chosen hours, meet dozens of like-minded souls in a day and all without the mental anguish of being labeled a xenophobe. So get on the Internet, get marketing and get a new challenge in life.

Yes, Aileen, networking online is much easier than face-to-face networking. But the key to succeeding in both is establishing a personal "connection" with people. That means taking a bit of a risk and exposing who you are as a person. But much more often than not that risk is rewarded by making new friends, business associates, and enrichment of your own life in the process of doing so for others.

Networking is indeed a "contact sport."

"paralyzes some people" This is so true, "but people are people, no matter how small" is a quote from Dr. Suess that I love! Being different is good, but never be afraid. :)
